The Queensland Premier’s Anzac Prize is again giving high school students the opportunity of a life-changing international travel experience through the 2023 Premier’s Anzac Prize.

Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk said applications were open for the 2023 prize.

“After a three-year COVID travel interruption, I’m delighted that eight students and two teacher chaperones will be selected to tour important war memorial sites in London, France and Belgium next year,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“This allows students to engage first-hand with the Anzac tradition, and to become ambassadors for the Anzac legacy with Queensland communities before and after their trip.

“Previous recipients have spoken about their inspirational experiences and remarkable discoveries, and I’m very pleased that it is available again.”

Education Minister Grace Grace said the Premier’s Anzac Prize would be an invaluable experience for current Year 8 to 11 state and non-state school students, and two teachers who will be selected to chaperone.

“The ability to investigate and experience the world and share ideas with others are important attributes in the 21st century workforce,” Ms Grace said.

“The Premier’s Anzac Prize enables the winners to develop and broaden their knowledge, skills, and world perspective in a way that also connects them deeply to our nation’s history.”

Chontelle Harris, a graduate from Pimlico State High School, was a prize winner the last time the international tour occurred in 2019.

“My perspective of the world has morphed drastically, and I’m evermore encouraged to explore it,” she said.

“If I could give someone thinking of applying any advice, it would be to put your all in.”

“I’ve made lifelong friends and memories through the prize, and it was such an enriching experience as a whole.”

The winning students and teachers will research service people, and take part in community engagement and fundraising projects, enhance their intercultural awareness and confidence, along with the travel component of the prize.

Applications close on Friday September 16th, and the 2023 recipients will be announced by the end of the 2022 school year.
