The founder of a not-for-profit organisation piloting an AI tool that acts as a personalised tutor and teaching assistant has been confirmed as EduTECH keynote speaker this year.
Organisers behind Australia’s largest education event have announced California-based Mr Sal Khan, the founder and CEO of Khan Academy, will present the keynote address in a speaking engagement exclusive to EduTECH.
Mr Khan’s presentation will drill down into the impact he has had on learning through AI technologies, and explore the benefits of adaptive learning environments, such as how AI fosters tailored learning experiences for both students and teachers.
He will also address the much-publicised challenges associated with AI integration, and how they can be overcome.
Described as a true game-changer in the field of education, Mr Khan founded Khan Academy in 2008, with a mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. The Academy is used in more than 190 countries and is now piloting Khanmigo, an AI powered tool.
Mr Khan is also the founder of Khan Lab School, a non-profit laboratory school in Mountain View, California; a cofounder of schoolhouse.world website, a non-profit that offers free tutoring over Zoom; and cofounder of Khan World School, a new non-profit online high school.
His interest in education began while he was an undergraduate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While there, he developed math software for children with ADHD and tutored fourth- and seventh-grade public school students. He holds three degrees from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Khan Academy’s platforms include more than 70,000 interactive practice problems as well as videos and articles that cover a range of K–12 subjects. Khan Academy’s learning system is mastery based, which allows students to master key concepts at a pace that’s right for them while staying at grade level.
The organisation partners with more than 500 school districts and schools across the US. Schools use MAP Accelerator, Khan Academy Kids and Khan Academy Districts to help teachers tailor instruction for each student. Khan Academy has more than 150 million registered users around the world and has been translated into more than 50 languages.
With a growing reputation in the media, Mr Khan has been profiled by 60 Minutes, featured on the cover of Forbes, and recognised as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. In his book, The One World Schoolhouse, Mr Khan outlines his vision for the future of education.
