A panel of experts led by Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, will focus on enhancing child digital safety and provide insights into best practice for online safety and screen time management in the next Camp Australia Insight Series session titled ‘Digital Defence: Solutions for School Leaders.’
The eSafety Commissioner has expressed concern about the ever-growing online safety issues for children and the implications on schools. This was also an issue highlighted by Camp Australia’s latest Child Impact Survey, where 68 percent of school leaders were concerned about children’s mental wellbeing, and 42 percent of parents were concerned about excessive screen time, along with children’s lack of socialisation.
Ms Inman Grant will be joined by Mr Warren Jacobson, CEO at Camp Australia, and Mr Henry Grossek, Principal at Berwick Lodge Primary School, who has worked in education for more than 50 years. Henry will share his invaluable experience from the “coalface” on the influence of technology on student wellbeing and learning.
“The online world can enrich the lives of children by providing an abundance of learning opportunities, outlets for creative self-expression and novel ways to stay in touch with friends,” said Ms Inman Grant.
“But to help them make the most of these positive experiences as safely as possible, we need their trusted adults to understand the evolving risks and be active online participants and advocates.”
“It’s crucial we keep working closely with school leaders, parents and carers to empower children to be resilient, respectful and savvy online users. Online safety must be taught, role modelled and celebrated from a child’s first swipe of the smart phone.”
“The safety and wellbeing of children is a priority for Camp Australia and our Insight Series provides an opportunity for primary school leaders to learn from leading experts on issues that are important to them,” said Mr Jacobson.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the eSafety Commissioner to dive into best practices for Online Safety and Screen Time Management, and we encourage all primary school leaders to attend.”
