New Adelaide school reveals designs

The South Australia Department for Education have released concept images for the new $84.4 million Morialta Secondary College in Adelaide’s northeast.

The build includes a café, performing arts centre, gallery, library, gymnasium, sports ovals and courts, as well as contemporary indoor and outdoor learning spaces and is designed by architects Thomson Rossi and Brown Falconer.

The school is being developed to meet the growing demand for enrolment in the area, as well as to remove the site’s ageing buildings and change them to contemporary learning facilities.

Roley Coulter has been appointed as the school’s Principal.

With experience as a future-focused public education leader, Coulter has previously been principal as Banksia Park International High School.

Coulter is highly regarded for the effect his leadership has had in increasing outcomes in secondary learning.

Alongside previous experience in delivering strong outcomes academically, Coulter has illustrated innovative leadership through supporting cross site professional learning, VET, and flexible pathway options.

Following community consultation, the implementation of a new school zone has also been finalised, which will include amendments to neighbouring secondary school zones.

The finished zone will encompass the suburbs of Hectorville and Rostrevor, and parts of Tranmere, Woodforde, Teringie, Montacute and Magill.

From 2023 the new zones will apply for students in the enrolment process for Morialta Secondary College, Marryatville High School, Norwood International High School and Charles Campbell College.

When enrolling in year 7 through the state-wide transition process, students with siblings currently attending one of the impacted secondary schools will be given automatic entry to the same school.

Meanwhile, when primary school students apply to start secondary school through the state-wide transition process, they will be allocated to the school in their new zone.

The new zones may position a residence in a different zone than it is currently.

With the enrolment process will be announced prior to May 2022, Morialta Secondary College will start accepting year 7 enrolments in 2023, with a wider intake scheduled from 2024.
