Two iconic Melbourne attractions – Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Centre – have announced they are now offering online workshops for primary school classrooms across Victoria in lieu of school excursions.

Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum with a focus on STEM disciplines, the online interactive classes bring students face-to-face with experienced educators and can be run via Google Classroom, Zoom or Skype.

“We look forward to bringing our magical attractions to schools all over Victoria via our new workshops. Our aim is to provide fun and educational experiences for school groups during this period where we are unable to host excursions,” says Katie Isaac, General Manager of Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Centre.

“Our Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium workshops inspire curiosity about the natural world and the need to protect it. At Legoland Discovery Centre our philosophy is all about encouraging learning by doing as well as fostering exploration and experimentation through Lego building.”

At Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium:

  • Primary schools can book a 45-minute workshop on the principles of animal care and the day in the life of a Sea Life keeper. Designed to provoke discussion, teachers can select from a range of topics including habitats, animal classifications, food, lifecycles and conservation.
  • The workshops cost $10 per student.
  • Worksheets will be provided for students to fill out before and after each workshop.
  • Further information including class size, availability and bookings can be found here.

With Legoland Discovery Centre:

  • Primary schools can select a hands-on 50-minute workshop that reinforces concepts in science, mathematics, language, arts and engineering through Lego building. There is the choice of robotics, spinning tops or creative storytelling.
  • The workshops cost is $6 per student.
  • Children can either bring their own Lego from home or teachers can purchase Lego workshops packs at the time of booking for an additional $12 per student.
