Zena Carusi-Lees has been awarded the Teachers Health Fund Showcase Award for Teacher of the Year as a result of her work with Balmoral State High School.
As this video attests, when Ms Carusi-Lees realised her school could be achieving much higher literacy results, she set about creating a program that would mean that spelling was incorporated into every class at the school.
The initiative, called Spelling Matters, has been applauded for its positive results.
