In the small regional town of Menindee, in NSW’s far west, Menindee Central School seeks to engage parents and members of the community about its students’ progress and achievements.
Menindee Central School is part of the Connected Communities strategy, an innovative approach developed by the NSW Department of Education to address educational and social aspirations of Aboriginal children and young people in 15 schools in 11 of the most complex and vulnerable communities in rural and regional NSW.
As Menindee Central School hasn’t always had strong relationships with its students’ parents and families, it created the ‘Yarn Up Circle’, a physical space for the school community to get together, chat and voice their opinions.
