Empowering Aboriginal girls to succeed in school and beyond is the focus of an $11.6 million funding commitment over four years from 2021 in public schools form the Western Australian Government.
The funding will go towards a variety of engagement programs that will encourage health and wellbeing, post-school pathways to employment, developing leadership skills and celebrating connection to traditions and cultures.
The programs will be designed to improve attendance, education engagement and achievement, and ultimately encourage students to continue their growth beyond their schooling in future careers.
“We want to ensure that our young Aboriginal women feel their culture is valued in their school and that they feel supported in succeeding in their education,” says Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery.
“It is vital for Aboriginal girls to feel school is the place for them and I’m thrilled these programs will have a focus on self-esteem, confidence and the life skills they need to succeed at school and into the future.”
